Still trying to figure this out...

I NEED MORE

After Midnight - Santino Hassell

This is going to be a different review. Just because Gordon had that impact on me.

This is how this happened…

26th September 2013
Susan emails me to tell me about this book. I read the blurb and I am like “hell no”. So I tell her in the nicest way that I’ll read it eventually as I don’t really read sci-fy. She says it’s dystopian but she also says it’s very subtle but I don’t read dystopian either. Anyway I one-click. Yes, because I am that coherent and let’s face it, I’m THAT easy.

So a few weeks ago I decided to act like an adult for once and read all those books I keep buying and not reading. I started archiving the ones that I will not read (I mean, I even have PNR books, what the hell is wrong with me?! I hate PNR!!!). The thing is I couldn’t archive After Midnight. It was as if the book had a power over me and my kindle, don’t think I’m crazy because I’m serious now!.

So I never archived it…

19th November 2013
I can’t take my eyes from that stupid book in my kindle. I better start it and get rid of it soon (yes, that was me talking to myself because we all talk to ourselves, stop denying it!). I decide to read it quickly thinking I’ll probably skip some parts so I can just remove the goddamn book. So I start and I realize that ME TENGO QUE METER LA LENGUA EN EL CULO! Nope, don’t even try to translate that. Let’s say I was wrong. I mean, I was hooked from the beginning and I don’t have a coherent reason for you guys. I just LOVED IT, it is like the author made me feel part of that fucked up world and I wanted to be one of them (the one in the middle between G&A to be more accurate!).

I was trying to explain my feelings to my boyfriend yesterday and he was like, “Oh yeah, wonderful. So now you love reading about drug dealers and assassins, how nice”. Whatever, he has no idea! Because this book is MUCH MORE THAN THAT!

So, why am I boring you with this? (Maybe no one is reading this far, how pathetic, right?). Because I want you all to read this book. PLEASE! I seriously started thinking I would not like it and I was sooooo wrong.

This was like watching a movie with an amazing script, fantastic characters and a REAL PLOT. I love romance books but it’s really nice when the authors add a GREAT plot into the story. You’ll fall in love with Gordon, you’ll LUST Adam “Mr Greek” and you’ll be part of this fantastic story.

This book was FUNNY…

"I guess I struck a nerve."
"Suck my cock and choke on it.”

This book was ROMANTIC and it had the BEST SEXUAL TENSION EVAHHHHH…

“Why do I let you do this to me?" Adam panted against his face, damp and warm, and heartbeat racing in his chest. "How do you ruin me like this?”

And this book had a few lessons for all of us…

“So, anyways, you’re bi then.”
“Do I really need a label?”

I am finishing, I promise!

If you guys want to give this a try but your budget for this month is non-existent pls PM me and I’ll gift 2 copies to the first two people who email me. I just need you guys to read it and review it (1 sentence counts as a review!) in 2 weeks max.

Santino, guapo, you have a new stalker FAN ;)

P.S. Many thanks Susan for your great rec.

MISSION FUCKING ACCOMPLISHED!!!

Trying to write a coherent review of a book you read more than one month ago SUCKS. Thanks God there are amazing reviews out there that you could read that will completely convince you to read this book. But to be honest, you don’t need to be convinced. This is one of those books that will rock your world.

Following my ‘hell to the no spoilers policy’ I’m just going to say very little about this story.

Maise and Evan meet in a Carnival and they share a special moment together.

”You’re pretty brave, sitting up front by yourself”

Days later they realize they are going to spend a whole year together because Evan is Maise’s new teacher. Nope, this is not just another teacher-student book. This one is way different and special because the story is not about being scared and denying your feelings just because the right thing to do is staying away from your student.

This is a book about FEELINGS. About growing up even though we don’t grow up, we just get bigger and older, right?

This is a book about imperfect people, people with flaws but not weak people. People who want to LIVE, 18 years old teens who know what they want in life and more importantly know what they don’t want. About making mistakes and running away from them, about believing even though when you believe in something you have hopes and life can crush them.

And this is a book about friendship. About friends that can get a wrong idea, friends that can fail because friends are not perfect, we can all disappoint our friends and it’s still ok, it’s not the end of the world!

“You’re never saying what you think you’re saying”

This is a book about LOVE. In all its meaning. Love for life, for someone special, for a friend, for your fucked up mother even if she doesn’t deserve it… just LOVE and FAITH.

"I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

God topples from the sky, hell's fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan's men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I fancied you'd return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)"

And this is a book about having guts to pursue what you want, what you believe in. About taking the risk and not looking back (ni para coger carrerilla as we would say in Spanish).

“Every dream is a pipe dream before someone achieves it”

So don’t even give it a second thought, just buy it and enjoy this AMAZING ROLLER COASTER.

Obrigada, Ana Rita, for your great rec xxx

P.S. BTW, about the ending... DO NOT OPEN THE SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS GEM! I've read this was a NON HEA ending. Seriously? Did we all read the same book? Ladies, we all read books so we all have imagination, right? The end was perfect and in my opinion I didn't need an Epilogue about them 10 years later being married and with kids, that's boring.

Football player Colt and cheer boy Jace share a night of passion. This is how this book starts. Yes, you guys know me and you know I hate kissing before 25% mark not to mention having sex at the very beginning of a book but for some reason this book worked for me!

So after one night of passion Jace has some kind of hope that this ‘thing’ with Colt might be something especial. What happens with Colt? Was this just a one night stand for him? Colt is inside the closet and he’s not even thinking about coming out, is he?

They spend a few days in paradise but something happens and they are forced apart with two broken hearts.

Ten long years later Colt is a football star with a not very easy life and Jace got almost all he ever wanted, he owns the largest cheerleading gym in the world but he still misses Colt…

He was the man who in five short days set the bar too high for anyone else to ever live up to

So what happens when they both realize that after ten years they are not able to fall in love again? What happens now that fate brings them back together?

If you want to find out, go buy this book right now because IT’S LIVE!!!

This is my first book from this author but it won’t be the last, I can tell. The story had it all in my opinion:

*A great love story (ok, they fell in love too quickly for my taste the first time they got together but I still connected with the characters and their feelings)

*Hot sex, hell yeah!

*Not silly characters. I mean, there was just the right amount of misunderstandings but especially Jace was sooooo perfect!

*Just a few editing issues that didn’t bother me at all

*Some mystery that will leave you wanting to know more (I NEED BOOK 2 LIKE YESTERDAY)

And NO! I wouldn’t say this is a cliffy at all, you’ll get all you need ;)

I am really hoping we have a story for MITCH, LOVE YOU!!!

The Broken Road Cafe (The Broken Road Cafe #1) - T.A. Webb

Review to come closer to release date. T.A. Webb always delivers...

Arsen - Mia Asher

LOVE HAS THE POWER TO DESTROY YOU.

image

Reviewing this book isn’t easy. Talking about Cathy, Ben & Arsen without spoiling this roller coaster isn’t easy so I’ll just let you know the premise of the book and then I’ll bore you with my thoughts.
The premise is easy. Ben & Cathy fell in love more than ten years ago. Their first encounter put a silly grin on my face every time I think about it.

He is the everything to my nothing

image

After all those years together their relationship is not the same.

No one has all the answers to solve the big puzzle that life is, and it is even less likely that another person can offer them to you.

Cathy and Ben are trying to have a baby but they have had three miscarriages. For this reason their marriage is not the same after all those years. Cathy blames her own body for not being able to hold a baby during 9 months and Ben is that kind of guy who’s always positive and calm, who is always telling you everything will be ok. Sometimes that kind of men might become annoying because even though they are trying their best to keep you happy, listening to their “crap” isn’t helping.

And then Arsen enters the picture. Arsen is a spoiled young man who has the world at his feet. He can have every woman he wants but he wants Cathy and Cathy is not available because she loves her husband, right?

”Live without love, without chasing your dreams, is nothing. It means nothing. It’s a sad fucking empty shell, Catherine. It’s so easy to drown in darkness, to let it smother you, swallow you whole, to be blinded by it. But you gotta fight. You gotta fucking fight.”

This is all you are going to get from me about their story. The below are just my crazy thoughts and I am going to BEG you to do NOT open the spoilers because I’ll ruin the book for you and I want you all to give this story a try and go blind.

There are books that hit close to home. Not only because whatever happens in the story happened to you already but because you learn things from some stories. If you know how to learn between lines I guess you’ll end up appreciating what you have in your life. I am now posting this review with my “Ben” sitting beside me and while I’ve had doubts before during our 9 years relationship, I am glad I ended up valuing what we have.

I can’t say my life is any similar to Cathy’s, no Arsens on my life but I understand her somehow. Yeah, I said I understand Cathy and Cathy is a cheater. Now, if you stop judging I would like to explain myself.

I mentioned before that things were not the same for Cathy & Ben after more than 10 years together and this didn’t surprise me. WHAT? You ladies think being in a long term relationship with someone is like some authors describe it in books? Oh well… let me break your bubble. When you are on a long term relationship you have good days but you also have bad days and sometimes you question your feelings, sometimes you need something (I didn’t say someone) new, sometimes you just get bored. It doesn’t mean you don’t love that person, it means you are H-U-M-A-N. End of.

Every action has a consequence. It doesn’t matter if you try to run or hide. It eventually catches up to you. Call it karma if you must, but said karma can totally kick you in the ass

The right thing to do in that situation you ask? I guess the right thing to do is just having a conversation with your boyfriend/hubby and explaining them what’s going on with your feelings. But that’s not easy and we all make mistakes, especially when temptation is knocking on your door. I didn’t like Cathy because she hurt Ben and sometimes it looked like she didn’t even care for him after all those years but somehow I understood her. She felt ALIVE again when she met Arsen and he taught her another side of life, a side she had long ago forgotten.

”Falling in love with someone is easy. It’s loving when the newness has worn off, when life gets tough, when things get in the way, when physical passion is gone, that true love remains. When love can conquer it all”

There is a song that was playing in my mind all the time while reading this book. Pls check this link and this song by The Killers. FOR REASONS UNKNOWN. Especially I beg you to check minute 3:16 and listen to what Brandon says. Because that song feels very real. I have been there and it’s ok, it doesn’t mean you can’t save your relationship, you still can if you want. But the sad truth is, relationships are not like in books and that’s why I loved this book because this is not a heart and flowers story, this is a BROKEN love story.

FOR REASONS UNKNOWN BY THE KILLERS

“Any of you people ever loved somebody?
Sometimes it comes very quickly, very easily
and sometimes it disappears just as quick.
You wake up one morning,
the butterflies stop fluttering,
but you want it back and you want to fight for it.
You wanna breathe that fire again
so you call for it, you call out.”

There is just ONE REASON why this book didn’t get a higher rating from me. I wish ***PLEASE I BEG YOU TO DO NOT OPEN THE SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THIS BOOK. I’LL RUIN THE END FOR YOU *** Cathy would have realized she still loved Ben while being with Arsen. It felt like she started realizing about her feelings for Ben just because Arsen left her and ended their “relationship”. Anyway I loved their story…

Thanks Helena for our BR & THANKS ANA RITA for laughing at my crazy theories...
You Had Me At Hello - Mhairi McFarlane

"Do nothing, and nothing happens. Life is about decisions. You either make them or they're made for you, but you can't avoid them"

image

'You Had Me At Hello' is a funny and romantic story set in Sheffield, close to Manchester, UK. I absolutely LOVED the writing style. If you've read Me Before You, I'd say the writing style is very similar. So why didn't I give it a higher rating you ask? Well, this one gets 3.5 stars because the story didn't totally grab me and the pace was very slow at times. I also think some scenes could have been deleted as they didn't provide anything important to the story. But apart from that it was a very decent read, I'm glad I gave this one a try, specially for the writing style.

This is the story of Ben & Rachel. They met 13 years ago when they were studying in the University. Rachel has a relationship with Rhys back them and Ben is single and they both start a very beautiful friendship. Yeah, I know, something is gonna happen, right?

13 years later Rachel is a journalist and she's still in touch with her best friends from Uni except for Ben. When you start reading the book you don't know how they parted ways after University so you are all the time wondering what happened and what made them lose contact. You'll get your answers eventually.

Caroline, her best 'happily married' best friend tells her she's seen Ben in town and as her life has been turned upside down after her breaking her relationship with Rhys, she decides she wants to see Ben once again. But Ben is not that single hot guy anymore, he's married now...

So this is the premise of their story, the book goes backwards and forwards all the time and you get to know more about their story when they were younger, what they felt for each other, what happened between them and what made them to come apart.

"Men who are hopelessly hung up on someone else tend to make crap boyfriends..."

There were some butterflies moments that I absolutely loved and even though the pace was very slow I loved the last part of the book. An Epilogue would have been nice.

"All I can say is, if you were my girlfriend, I'd certainly be desperate for you to take them off"

This is a story about friends being in love, about friendship, about co-workers who are bitches and a story about second chances.

"I don't know what Ben saw in you"
I stop, think, turn. "...Himself?"

What I didn't really like? That part when Ben accused Rachel of trying to break his marriage. Seriously? That was very soap opera-ish, didn't buy it, especially when he was in her same situation 13 years ago.

If any of you are having second thoughts because you think there is cheating in this story, please open the spoiler. THERE IS NO CHEATING AT ALL ;)

------------ORIGINAL REVIEW--------------

image

This book, holly hell this book! I finished this yesterday and thought it was great but I can not express what I felt this morning when I woke up thinking about them.

Me Before You is real, just like life is real. This is not a sappy book with silly characters that fall in love and that’s it. This is a book about friendship, love, patience, ambitions and many many many more things. Yes, you’re gonna cry if you’re human but you’re gonna LAUGH, a lot! Because Will & Lou are smart asses that will make you love them from the beginning.

You know what? I had the pleasure of reading this gem on paperback and I marked the whole damn book and I was planning to quote some of the best sentences but I am NOT gonna do that. You wanna know why? Because you need to experience this book, you need to read it blind

This book will teach you to LIVE BOLDLY

image

Will used to live boldly, he was an attractive guy on his early thirties with a great job, a hot girlfriend and an amazing life in London until one day everything changes.

Two years later he crosses paths with Lou who apparently has nothing in common with him. But they have to spend time together whether they like it or not. And they don’t like it, they actually hate each other at the beginning of their story. But sometimes, life puts you on a place for a reason and you open your mind and start seeing things that you didn’t even see before.

This book will teach you to PUSH YOURSELF

image

Lou was a normal girl in a normal city with a normal life, a normal boyfriend and a normal job. Until one day things changes for her, she loses her job and she has to PUSH HERSELF to things she never thought about. But she discovers that pushing your limits, walking outside your comfort zone is not that bad.

And this book will teach you to DON’T SETTLE

image

No matter how hard your life is, you can’t settle, you need to look forward, you need to live, LIVE WELL. JUST LIVE

This book is the reason why I read! And this is how you write Romance. I am VERY TIRED of hotties falling in love after watching each other and feeling an instant electricity. No! That’s not real.

Will & Lou hated each other at the beginning, Lou was forced to be with him and he didn’t have any choice at all BUT they got to know each other and they fell in love and OMG it was so freaking beautiful because that’s love, REAL LOVE. Lou would have done EVERYTHING for him and he proved his love for her too.

This book just taught me that there are people who are worth it out there. People like Lou who would leave everything behind to help someone like Will. People like Will who would push Lou to LIVE even though that would mean she wouldn't be around that much.

There is NOTHING about this book I can complain about. ANYTHING, NADA! I understood every single character, their POVs, even Will's dad. I would have love to read Will’s POV in at least one chapter but loved the book anyway.

My favourite part was Alicia’s wedding . That moment when they were looking at each other, than hunger for something they could give to each other, that passion, that LOVE and respect…

The below are my personal thoughts, I understand you might have your owns and you might think I am evil, that’s ok. I will respect all your opinions, hope you can respect mine.

Living with someone like Will and loving someone like Will is NOT easy and I understand what they did, if you love someone you would do ANYTHING to see that person happy

I am totally against suicide but in this case I truly understood him and I would have helped him to go to Switzerland. He was living a miserable life, he wasn't happy and he has the right to decide what to do with his life.

We had a similar case in Spain. Ramon San Pedro was in the same conditions than Will and he did exactly the same and when I saw that on the news I was a teen but even then I understood him . If you get a chance, pls watch the film Mar Adentro by Alejandro Amenabar, if you loved this book, you'll love that film.

Deirdre & Joana recommended me to watch The Untouchables so go read their reviews and check that film too.

I know this might not be a coherent review but I am still a mess!

READ. THIS. BOOK.

Thanks Amaia & V for this BR

Gives Light (Gives Light, #1) - Rose Christo

***FIVE SOUNDLESS AND SMILING STARS***

image

I finished this book yesterday and I still can’t stop thinking about it. This book just stole my heart and imprinted it with a permanent marker.

‘Gives Light’ is a book about love. Not just about falling in love with someone, but about love in general. Sometimes I am tired about reading those conventional and repetitive love stories, sometimes I want something else. Sometimes I just want to read the story of a kid with a huge capacity to love his family and friends, a kid who doesn’t know what resentment means.

Skylar, a boy who lost his mom and his voice 11 years ago...

image

He was left with his father and now, 11 years later his father has disappeared and he has to move to the reservation where his Granny lives.

How horrible uncertainty was. How cruel
And that’s the thing about this book, most of the quotes I highlighted are thoughts that I always have on my mind. You’ll feel like you’re reading about your own life.

Rafael, a native american boy who thinks he's responsible for his dad's actions...

image

Rafael has demons to fight and he hasn’t had an easy life but Sky will bring light to his existence and he’ll understand that he’s not his father.

He always knew what I wanted

What will happen when their worlds collide? How will Skylar react when he realizes Rafael is the son of the criminal who killed his mom?

Death wasn’t a waste of time. My mom was gone. I’d never have the chance to know her. But it was through her absence, aching and acute, that I had come to know Rafael instead.

Where is Sky’s dad? Is he dead? Is he hidden somewhere?

God had a plan for the Universe. And it was a really nice thing to believe

Why does Sky have those strange feelings whenever he’s close to Rafael?

Because my stomach was tight, my chest was hot, and the strangest thoughts kept permeating my better senses – like how full his lips were, hiding sharp teeth; what his teeth might feel like beneath my tongue

If you want to find out the answers to all those questions, READ THIS BOOK.

image

On a side note, and please don’t take this wrong, I need to point out that I am very sad that this book is not a best seller. I have an opinion, don’t kill me. If this book was about a straight couple, I think it would have been a best seller. This was like reading The Fault in our Stars, same amazing writing style. But guess what? They are two boys in love and that’s why a lot of people won’t give it a try. And I respect that, but you guys don’t know what you’re missing.
Rose Christo’s writing is pure poetry, the kind of writing that you can’t put down, the kind of prose that will stay in your mind at night when you’re trying to fall asleep.

Admitting what I wanted felt so much easier than denying it

Thanks Baba for telling me about this book! Can’t wait to continue our journey with Sky & Rafael.

A Matter of Time Book 1 - Mary Calmes

I didn't want to need him

image

What can I say about this book? Let's do this short & sweet. I barely read on weekends so I thought why not start this one because it wasn't that long. Heather (my fave dentist EVAH) told me it was a freebie so I got my copy and guess what? Book 2 was also included so yeah, I am hooked and almost finishing book 2 now.

Ok, onto the review now.

Jory is a young guy who witness a murder.

Detective *ASSHOLE/TE ODIO* Sam Kage is a STRAIGHT detective who is working on Jory's case.

That's the premise of the book. The thing is Jory is not stupid and he doesn't want anyone taking care of him but he's not expecting Detective Kage to be that hot and "special".

They share more than a witness/detective relationship but things might get complicated for them.

"Keeping secrets is a killer and guilt is even worse"

This book wasn't amazing, there were a few things I didn't like but still I couldn't put it down for reasons unknown as my Brandon Flowers would say.

The only thing I know is I had to start book 2 and now I am biting my nails while I finish book 2 because I can't freaking wait for book 3 so that's why I gave this one 3.5 (rounded up) stars, because this series is unputdownable and very well written.

image

Knights Out (City Knight #4) - T.A. Webb

"Every heart needs breaking sometimes. It just means you've let it get too hard"

image

Wow I wasn’t expecting this one to be THAT good to be honest. I was expecting a few happy moments between Marcus & Ben and that’s all but this book was way more, it was something else.

This is the premise (from the blurb):

Marcus Prater has his life in order. He's got the man he loves, Benjamin Danvers, living and working with him. He's healed from the bullet that almost stopped his heart. And he's got his best friends back in his life.

What more could he ask for?

When Marcus is asked to investigate the disappearance of a young man close to Benjamin, that prompts him to begin the search for his brother too. What he finds changes everything.

image

So yeah, Marcus and his Benjamin are living together and they are happy. They apparently have it all but you can’t replace certain people in your life, can you?

When Marcus starts searching for Frankie, his brother, everything changes. I can’t say anything else about this but let me tell you this is what I enjoyed the most in this story.

Not to mention Wick! I love that man, BIG TIME! And I wish we could get to know him better… I have a good feeling for him. I am so freaking excited!!! Hope I’m right!

In this book Marcus will prove again what an excellent person he is, he’ll prove again his love for Benjamin and my lovely Ben is all grown up, I loved his smart ass comments to Wick, love that guy!

Once again Tom did a great job. I always say I’d be more than happy to read WHATEVER he writes, even his grocery list and he proved me right once again with this one. He’ll get you emotional, horny as hell and excited in a few pages. Please read this book and anything from this author.

Hope you all enjoy Marcus & Benjamin journey.
